The work you are applying for

Octane Fuel Cards is an American company. It sells fuel cards to people who own trucks in the United States — a card that makes diesel cheaper at the pump. You do not need to know anything about trucks today. The program teaches what the card is and who buys it.

A Lead Generator makes the first call. You reach the owner, you keep him talking, you find out whether the card fits him, and you write down what you learned. Nothing is read from a script. You do this from home, in English, every working day.

This is not a job from day one. It is a selection with a job at the end of it. Octane sees only the people who reach the finals, with the recordings of them talking, and decides from there.

How the selection runs

Five steps from this page to the finals. The first three take one sitting; the rest is the program itself.

  1. Step 1/5 Phone and identity A one-time code arrives in the Hyperion bot in Telegram — there are no passwords here. Then MyID checks your face against your document, and that you are 18 or older. Minutes

  3. Step 3/5 English screening A recorded conversation with a dialogue AI about you — your experience, your habits, your plans. Not about trucks: nothing to prepare. This position asks for B2 on the CEFR scale. 5 questions
  4. Step 4/5 The modules 8 modules with material and 2 exams, each one a few hours of work. You get 3 attempts for the whole program — use them all and it ends there. The clock starts the day you pass the screening. 10 modules · 14 days
  5. Step 5/5 The finals Reach the end and your profile goes to Octane with the recordings of you talking. From there it is a conversation with the company, not with us. Nothing more from you

The English bar, before you start

The job is calls to American truck owners, in English, every working day. So English is checked first, before anything else, and it is checked by voice — not by what you wrote about yourself.

The bar for this position is B2 on the CEFR scale. The verdict is your overall level: pronunciation, fluency, grammar and vocabulary all count towards it. You will be shown the bar and the level you actually reached.

You get 3 tries at it. After the last one the door closes for 3 months. If the English is not there yet, it is better to find that out today than after a week of work.

Do not start if

  • You cannot take being hung up on.

    The first module is three calls: nobody answers, then someone is rude to you, then a normal conversation. It is built that way on purpose, and between a third and half of the people who start do not get past it.

  • Your English is below B2.

    The screening comes before everything else, and there is no way around it. Fail it 3 times and the door closes for 3 months.

  • You do not have a few free hours a day.

    10 modules inside 14 days, with 3 attempts for the whole program. Days you miss are not given back.

  • You are under 18.

    MyID reads your date of birth from your own document at the very start. There is nothing to argue with here.
